UGLINESS, BRUTALITY, BANALITY AND BOREDOM.

These are my impressions whilst being driven through the economic hinterlands of North London, where the landscape consists of car showrooms, vast warehouses, industrial and retail units, out-of-town hypermarkets,  ‘Big-box’ or ‘Price-Impact’ stores and other such architectural vomit-splashes and the random detritus of urban commerce- recycling centres and car scrapyards, forming a zone of shit before you reach the suburbanised countryside…

Capitalism naturally comes at a price, but is it only me who feels a profound sense of melancholy, seeing such a uniformly disgusting landscape- the same to be found on the outskirts of every city (though all we are missing here in the sated West are the shanty towns)?

Utopia’s backyard stinks of piss, diesel oil, and the cloying stench of McDonald’s cooking oil…

THE RICH ARE OUR MISFORTUNE.
